Overview
The A338 Road runs between the unitary authority of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole at its southern terminus, and a roundabout junction with the A420 in Oxfordshire at its northern terminus.
For about two thirds of it's length, starting from the south, the road is a Primary route. At Burbage in Wiltshire, the Primary route continues as the A346, and the A338 continues north-east as a Non-Primary route.
A ~10 Mile / 16.1 Kilometre section of the road between Bournemouth West Roundabout and Ashley Heath Roundabout is a mostly a D2 dual carriageway road, with multiple grade-separated junctions. The road then multiplexes with the A31 for a short distance before turning north towards Salisbury.
